Every March we celebrate Theatre in Our Schools Month, a celebration of theatre throughout all grade levels, especially high school. Theatre education is proven to help students develop a strong sense of self, make meaning of the world around them, build empathy, and so much more. Those involved in theatre and earn multiple arts credits are five times more likely to graduate than those with little to no involvement in the arts.
We asked our troupe members what theatre means to them.
Here are some of the responses:
Farah Jones
Troupe Vice President
To me, theatre is the ultimate art and form of expression. No matter who you are, what you do, and what you are capable of — there is a place for you in theatre. There is both a rush of peace and adrenaline when I’m on stage that is so beautiful to me. When I’m on stage, for an instance, I am not me and also my most authentic self at the same time. There’s nothing else in this world that can give you that feeling but theatre.
Vanessa Garcia
Stage Manager
To me, theatre is a place where I can express myself, whether it be on stage or behind the scenes. It is a place where I can be myself and find people I fit in with best. It is a place where I can get with others to create something that is truly great.
Check back each Friday for two more responses as well as some theatre education fun facts all throughout the month of March!
