Theatre Thursday Recap #1

Yesterday (March 9th) was the first of 4 Theatre Thursdays as outlined in a post from the official Georgia Thespians Instagram. Theatre Thursdays are a great way to show support for your local school theatre groups throughout Theatre in Our Schools Month. This Thursdays theme was show shirts! Here are some awesome photos of our department in their past show shirt attire!

This year's fall one act, Tuck Everlasting, seemed to be the most popular shirt choice!

Going back to what this month is all about, here's this weeks school theatre fun facts!

  • Students who get involved in theatre are less likely to be involved in risky/violent behaviors. -Whole Brain Learning: The fine arts with students at risk, 2006

  • As of 2014, there were nearly 26,000 K-12 school-based theatre programs throughout the United States. - MTD Marketing

Our students still have a lot to say about what theatre means to them.

Here's this weeks responses:

Kinsley Hamilton

Troupe Secretary

Theatre means a whole lot to me. Theatre helps me express myself, and I feel like I can just be me when I'm on stage. I have made so many lifelong friends because of theatre. I am so grateful that theatre exists. Love you Troupe 5736!!!!!

Christian Wright

Assistant Music Director/Actor

Imagine a sudden rush of spontaneous fear and excitement that grows rapidly with every step you take closer to the curtain. This feeling is like walking on a tight rope wire above an open abyss. Only when you fall, will you break the barrier between yourself and the very cusp of reality. This very matrimony between myself and the stage. This very feeling of theatrical euphoria. This welcoming family that treats me right. My home away from home. THAT is theater to me.

Autry Giddens

Actor/Techie

Well theater it means a lot more than doing a lot of hard work or at least to me what I think theater is about to me and means to me is that it’s about having fun with your fellow friends/peers sure most of it’s about the audience and about the peer pressure and drama but when having friends around it makes me feel better and happier it’s like I have a big big family and I hope that love never ends.

Huge thank you to these students for sharing what theatre means to them! If you are a student at PHS who is involved in our program and would like to answer what theatre means to you, please click here:

Another great big thank you to EVERY student involved in theatre at our school. If you want to get in on the fun this month, prepare to dress in either your troupe shirt or ThesCon shirt next week!
